BRAINSTORY BREATHE (DEMO VERSION)

The brilliant New York soul label Big Crown have started knitting together Demoitis Vol. 1, a compilation record of demos from a few of their artists. We've already heard the wonderfully raw sounds of Bobby Oroza's 'Breakthru (This Love Demo)', and Lady Wray's iPhone recording, 'Guilty (Demo Version)'. Adding to the collection, Brainstory dig up 'Breathe (Demo Version)'. It opens with one of the members in mid conversation '...I was gona tell you but I kept forgetting', then someone counts in and away they go. The phaser-soaked guitar plucks are both soulful and pop-leaning, the perfect backing for the vocals that cry 'I've seen you lately and I've got to say, you can't keep your head right if you ain't go space'. Synthesiser plays a Stevie-style lick, which became one of the prominent elements of the track when it was released on Brainstory's 2019 album Buck. 'Breathe (Demo Version)' is the perfect remedy for anyone that finds themselves in a turbulent time. Demoitis Vol. 1 is due out on Big Crown Records August 27th. -Ellie Rose-Davies
